Produce Section: Mike Posner

Mike Posner. Ever heard of him before? If you answered no, then you may want to get familiar with this guy. 
He is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. He worked with Don Cannon and Dj Benzi on his first mixtape, "A Matter of Time," which was released in early 2009. Not many hip hop artist are blessed with a Don Cannon and DJ Benzi stamp on their first mixtape. Songs like Hey Cupid and, his debut single, Cooler Than Me show more of his R&B side, while songs like Losing My Mind and Smoke & Drive show more of his hip hop perspective. Posner does the bulk of his own songwriting and production. Many of his songs has that old Dungeon Family feel to them, and I was very impressed with his production and songwriting skills on his sampled version of Beyonce's Halo. Posner is a well rounded artist with tons of potential, but the real reason I respect him enough to spend time blogging about him is his grind and focus. In July 2009, Posner signed a major label deal with J Records (RCA/Sony). He then returned back to Duke University after signing his record deal! He is currently touring on the weekends and recording his debut album! How many new artist go back to school after they sign their deals? To me that shows that Mike Posner is focused on learning and growing as a person over being an artist. On October 29, 2009, Posner released hi second mixtape, "One Foot Out The Door." The Clinton Sparks hosted mixtape featured Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Bun B, Saigon, GLC, 3OH!3, Freddie Gibbs, and XV. His debut album is expected to be released in late Summer 2010. He will be performing on all 42 dates of the 2010 Warped Tour this summer. Be on the lookout for Mike Posner because he is truly Produce Section fresh!
